Routes into Work for Retail
The Routes into Work Programme for Retail will give you the skills that you need and the skills employers want. This programme will guide you to find work and get further in your career.

The amount of training completed varies from person to person, depending on your needs. An allocated adviser will support you to decide which training to complete.

You will be supported to find paid work of over 16 hours per week in a retail environment in a role such as a sales adviser or shop assistant.
 Who can access this programme?
The programme is fully funded by the Government if you:
  • are 18–24 years old
  • are a British Citizen, come from an EU member country or have lived in UK for 3 years or more
  • are on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
  • have been unemployed for 26–50 weeks (6–12 months).
Customers can be fast tracked to the Young Person’s Guarantee.
 What other help is available?
Childcare and bus fares are paid for on this provision. You will also receive a training allowance.
 How long does the programme last?
Each programme lasts 2–8 weeks, depending on individual needs.
You will complete 16–30 hours per week.

 Further study
When you find a job in a customer-focused environment you can progress onto a fully funded qualification. If you are 19 years old or over you can complete an NVQ in Customer Service Level 2. If you are 18 you can complete an Apprenticeship in Customer Service.

 How do I sign up?
Your Jobcentre Plus Adviser must refer you by calling Care Training on 0115 9599 544. They will book you in for an initial appointment at a location convenient to you. An SL2 will accompany the referral. On making an initial appointment, an information pack will be sent to you containing directions and an appointment card.
