Applying to be an apprentice
In order to complete an Apprenticeship you need to find an employer to take you on and pay your wages. The selection process is just like any other job application process and you will be interviewed to establish if you are right for the vacancy.
If you enrol onto ignite you can get support with your Apprenticeship application through our 2 Day Apprenticeship Workshop and/or Apprenticeship preparation.

2 Day Apprenticeship Workshop
This covers:
- understanding Apprenticeships and what they can offer a young person;
- preparing a profile on the Apprenticeship vacancy matching service;
- applying for vacancies and how to follow up the application; and
- interview skills.
Who can access this?
You can access this workshop free of charge if you are:
- 16–24 years old; and
- living in Nottingham City, Derby or Derbyshire; and
- not in any form of work, education or training. *

The ignite programme can offer you support to get onto an Apprenticeship. This support lasts as long as it takes you to get into work, training or an Apprenticeship, and includes:
Support with the application process
Get support to look for vacancies and to successfully complete the online application process on the Apprenticeship vacancy matching service. We can also support you in applying for any other vacancies you’re interested in.
Interview techniques
Learn about interview techniques and get practice to grow your confidence.
Workshops to bulk up your CV
Complete workshops or taster sessions in your chosen sector to gain knowledge and soft skills. You can also put them on your CV.
Maths and English qualifications
If you didn’t get an A or A* in your GCSEs in Maths and English you will need to complete an initial assessment before enrolling onto any Apprenticeship. The ignite programme can help you prepare by completing Functional Skills in Maths and English.

Completing an Apprenticeship at your current workplace
You could complete Apprenticeship training where you work now (you would need your employer’s permission). If you’re 18 years old or under you can get funding to cover all the course fees.
