Vanessa Pickup had just finished her A’ Levels when she decided to turn her talents to health and social care. After securing a work position for four days a week at Derbyshire Haven, Vanessa enrolled onto the Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care with Care Training East Midlands.
Vanessa settled in quickly to the 12 service user care home, embarking on activities such as personal care and contributing to record keeping. Vanessa felt the care home was “exactly how I expected and it was easy to get on with everyone.”
Her manager Barbara preferred having someone with little experience in care, as this meant she could train Vanessa to “the high standards of Derbyshire Haven, without any bad habits causing an influence”.
Since completing the Apprenticeship Vanessa has remained in employment with Derbyshire Haven and says, “I am really thankful and grateful for the opportunity”.
