A Recruitment Subsidy of £1000 was introduced as a temporary measure in April 2009, as part of the response to the economic downturn. The subsidy was due to end in March 2011. However, the government has now announced the early closure of the Recruitment Subsidy due to the Coalition's budget cuts.

The Recruitment Subsidy will continue to be paid for eligible employees who start work by Wednesday 30 June 2010. However, Recruitment Subsidy claim form(s) must arrive with the Recruitment Subsidy National Payments Team no later than Friday 30 July 2010. Any claim form(s) received on or after Monday 2 August 2010 will not be processed for payment.
This is the information given on the Business Link website.
How it works
- You recruit someone from our Young Person's Guarantee programme before Wednesday 30 June 2010. They need a contract of employment for a minimum of 26 weeks, completing a minimum of 16 hours per week.
- On their first day of employment your new recruit will bring you their Recruitment Subsidy voucher.
- Complete your details and post the voucher to the Jobcentre Plus address shown on the voucher. You must ensure your Recruitment Subsidy claim form arrives with the Recruitment Subsidy National Payments Team no later than Friday 30 July 2010.
- You'll receive the £1,000 in two split payments:
1. On receipt of the Recruitment Subsidy voucher, Jobcentre Plus will pay £500 into your business’ bank account within 15 working days (this is subject to the terms and conditions).
2. The final payment will be made 26 weeks later, providing the employee is still NOT claiming a Jobcentre Plus benefit.
If you have any questions you can email the Recruitment Subsidy National Payments Team at recruitment.subsidy@jobcentreplus.gsi.gov.uk.
