Care Training is running Care First Careers as part of the Young Person’s Guarantee to support young people into work in the care industry.

This scheme is available in Derby and Nottingham.

Facts and figures about Care First Careers

  • The Chancellor has allocated £75 million towards the scheme.
  • There is a planned allocation of 50,000 jobs for young people in the care sector.
  • The scheme is backed by United Kingdom Home Care Association, National Care Association, Skills for Care and Association of Directors.

What does the scheme for me as an employer?

  • A FREE recruitment service if you are looking for a new member of staff.
  • Recruiting from the scheme will give you a trained member of staff with up-to-date training for the care industry.
  • The candidates put forward for your vacancy will have researched and applied for the job themselves. All the short-listing will then be completed by Care Training’s dedicated advice and guidance team; only selected candidates will reach the final selection stage by yourself.
  • Your new recruit will have had an in-depth introduction to the sector. The training will ensure your new recruit has a firm understanding of what is involved in the sector - ultimately leading to a sustainable member of staff.
  • £1000 cash subsidy on recruiting your new member of staff, whatever their position in the care home. So you could recruit someone for the administration department.
  • Opportunity for further training for your new recruit through a fully funded NVQ Level 2.
  • If you have several vacancies, we can arrange a specific pre-employment training programme tailored to the needs of your organisation. Click here to see how we work with Partnerships in Care in this way.

To arrange a meeting with a member of the Employer Engagement Team to discuss your recruitment needs, and what you are looking for in an employee, please call 0115 9599 544.

What does the scheme mean for me as an
unemployed 18 to 24 year old?

  • Speak to your Jobcentre Plus adviser; they will assess your eligibility for the programme. If you are eligible they will refer you to Care Training.
  • You will receive the expert advice and guidance to develop your underpinning knowledge and support you into work in the care sector.
  • Once you are settled in your new workplace in the care sector we will support you to complete a fully funded NVQ Level 2.
