Look for the logo above if you are from Aspley, Bilborough, St Ann’s or The Meadows.

Our In the Community courses actually take place in the community, not our city centre building.

Unfortunately We have no funding to run these courses at the moment, but we are working on it.
Our community courses have developed considerably within the last few months. It would have been impossible to run these courses without the support of local community venues such as Glenbrook School in Bilborough, Sure Start Amesbury Circus in Aspley, Bluebell Hill School in St. Ann’s and The Meadows Sure Start - so a big thank you to everyone there.
 nextstep Into Work

The nextstep Into Work programme is doing exceptionally well with over 100 people engaged and being supported in finding employment, of which 23 have secured and found work within their chosen field. The IAG Advisers have supported and dedicated a lot of time to helping people within these communities, guiding them in the right direction.

 learndirect
The learndirect community courses help people with Literacy and Numeracy needs to gain an up to date and recognised qualification to GCSE equivalent standard, within the four community areas. learndirect in Aspley and Bilborough has taken off and we have a regular group of people who attend the sessions with our tutor Annabel.

See Literacy and Numeracy Courses for more details.

 Childcare Courses
So far we have delivered two childcare courses in the Meadows, two in St. Ann’s, three in Bilborough and we have a course due to start in the New Year in Strelley. Numbers on this course are limited due to the fantastic uptake.

Out of the 42 learners who started the CACHE Level 1 course before the summer holidays, 10 learners went on to take part in the NVQ Level 2 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. All 10 learners are undertaking voluntary work and are gaining up to date experience and skills. In addition, each of the 10 learners have gone on to study learndirect courses to build on their Literacy and Numeracy skills.

We have 4 childcare courses due to finish before Christmas and all of the learners are hoping to progress on to the NVQ Level 2. With their increased confidence and skills, all learners are keen to gain employment within this field, along with relevant up to date qualifications.
