Central Skills, The Bilborough Warehouse, The Official Opening

Thursday 4 September 2008 saw the official opening of the new Central Skills warehouse learning centre.

As the sister company of Care Training East Midlands, it provides the opportunity for those referred onto New Deal to participate in courses concerning fork lift truck driving, warehousing, manufacturing and IT installations.

Attendees included Jobcentre Plus advisers from across Nottingham, it offered the advisers the opportunity to observe the courses in action, meet the training staff as well as participating on a guided tour of the centre. They were also presented with the opportunity to pick up plenty of leaflets and information on the courses now offered at Central Skills and ask questions to the managing directors.

Part of the tour included a demonstration conducted by Bruce Sheeran. The presentation focused on the portable classroom and technology used by Care Training and Central Skills to take the mundane and eeriness out of learning.

Managing Directors Rita and Alex Ford both gave an official opening speech before the cutting of the ribbon. This was conducted by a surprised but successful Darren Sands, a previous attendee of the New Deal course. He is an example of the journey some make when they attend a New Deal course. Darren is now employed by Central Skills and is currently being trained as an NVQ assessor for the Plant Operations course.

After all the talking and questions it was time for a light bite to eat of some scrumptious food to end the celebration. This gave guests the opportunity to mingle and meet other attendees from the various sectors of training and employment.

Other attendees included members of the Learning and Skills Council, representatives from GNLP, UFI, Meadows Partnership Trust and Bestwood Partnership. As well as employees from Serif .
