“I appreciated all the training I received – it was relevant to the work I wanted to do. They explained both the pros and cons of working in the care sector and all the different jobs that were available to me in care.”

Drew Howard, from Bestwood Park, came to Care Training as part of the Young Person’s Guarantee after it was recommended by her Jobcentre Plus adviser, Sarah. Drew says, “I had previously worked as a bartender and found this to be unsatisfying. I wanted to find permanent employment in a rewarding job.”

“I had wanted to work in the care sector for such a long time but I was unsure of how to go about it. The health and social care programmes on offer at Care Training seemed interesting. What especially appealed to me about Care Training when I attended the pre-talk was they seemed like they could help me achieve my goals – giving me practical experience through the vocational training.”

“All the training I received at Care Training was very helpful. The tutors really connect with you and I found it easy to ask questions and approach them”.

“I started to apply for job vacancies after completing the majority of my vocational training. When I applied for the position of care assistant at Leivers Court and was offered an interview I asked my adviser, James, for guidance about the best way to promote myself. We had a practice interview – which made me feel more confident and prepared on my interview day.”

“The preparation paid off and I was offered the job – I was so excited to get started! However, I did have to wait for my CRB check to be returned. Care Training supported me in completing my CRB check application form and sending it off so it was done as quickly as possible.”

Drew says, “I appreciated all the training I received – it was relevant to the work I wanted to do. They explained both the pros and cons of working in the care sector and all the different jobs that were available to me in care.”

Drew now works at Leivers Court Care Home in Arnold as a care assistant. She says, “I would not be at Leivers Court if I had not had the help and support from people at Care Training. Once I am settled in my new job I am hoping to start my NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care with Care Training.”
