Following a staff survey across the whole of the workforce Lands' End identified a need for training relevant to individual employee roles. Lands' End engaged with Central Skills through The Business Link Skills Portal, and now Central Skills provide them with training in the Warehouse, Administration and Customer Service Teams.
When Sherwood Playgroup took on volunteers an extra set of hands, they recognised the NVQ in Children’s Care, Learning & Development Level 2 offered a great opportunity for the volunteers to gain a qualification.
Dawn had a successful career as a teaching assistant at her local primary school for a number of years, but when her children finished school she felt that she needed a change. With Care Training's help she is now back in business administration.

Over the summer months Care Training East Midlands (CTEM) has been working to support Partnerships in Care, one of the largest providers of secure mental health facilities within the UK, in training and recruitment.
Andrew spent ten years unemployed on benefits while caring for his wife. While caring for his wife he realised he had the caring nature required to succeed in a rewarding career in care. He came to Care Training and now has his dream job at a care home.
Gavin was made redundant last autumn. His self-esteem was hit again when he failed a written entrance test to become a bus driver for NCT. But after receiving support from Care Training's Skills for Jobs programme, he re-took his entrance test and passed with flying colours.
Ross had been to a similar training company for two weeks, but didn’t feel comfortable or receive the support he needed. At CTEM he really enjoyed the friendly environment.

Before coming to Care Training East Midlands, Sean lacked confidence and would only apply for low skilled jobs that didn’t require qualifications. Now he has Level 2 Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, as well as Health & Safety and Customer Service.
Chris was on Jobseeker’s Allowance and working part time as a labourer. He found out what was on offer through his Jobcentre Plus Adviser and decided to give Central Skills a try. it wasn’t long before he found a three week work placement at Harris Slate and Stone.
Martin was unemployed for 3 years before enrolling onto the Fork Lift Truck New Deal Programme with Central Skills at the Bilborough Warehouse. After a three week unpaid placement, he was hired as an order picker at MKG Foods.
As well as working part-time and looking after her daughter, Virginia volunteers at Inspire's offices at least eight hours a week as an administrator to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration.
Before coming to Care Training East Midlands, Marie Henrys was a full time mum to her two girls, now aged 10 and five. After completing the New Deal Business Administration Programme for Lone Parents she is now completing a work trial at Central Skills, acting as Tutor Support to the Literacy and Numeracy Tutor at Central Skills.
British businesses lose an estimated £2.3 billion a year due to a lack of Literacy and numeracy skills within their workforce. Using the most up-to-date technology (and Train to Gain funding) we are working with National Autoparts to get their staff up to Level 2 in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
Through Train to Gain and Skills for Jobs, Care Training has enabled the development of an organisation central to the transportation industry and essentially the running of Nottingham as a city.

After a complicated upbringing, living between divorced parents, Claire left home at 17. Now, after completing the New Deal Programme for Lone Parents, she is a strong role model for her children - working in a brand new treatment centre at the Queens Medical Centre.
The last time we updated you on Amy, in January this year, she had completed her New Deal Hospitality course and was feeling confident and excited about her new job at the Hilton Hotel. Nine months on and she's been promoted to House Keeping Supervisor.
After completing the New Deal Hospitality Programme, Danny was offered a job as a bar tender at the Park Inn, Nottingham. Just two weeks later he was promoted to Assistant Manager.
After bringing up her own children Mandy was aware that she had the skills needed to work in childcare, but was unqualified to do so. She opted for the Children First Program, after which she was offered the opportunity to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Children’s Care, Learning & Development.
Louise Grant, an employee at Care Training East Midlands, had struggled with maths at school. She thought, "it was something I’d never be able to do so I just had to deal with it". Now she has achieved her Level 2 Certificate in Adult Numeracy.
Sam found training quite hard as English is his second language, but with support like one-to-one tutorials he completed the New Deal Programme and went on to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Children’s Care Learning & Development.
Back in 2004 Michaela was unemployed and looking after her daughter as a lone parent. Three years later, after lots of hard work and a little help from Care Training East Midlands, she is now the Manager of Mappleton House.
