Care Training held a recruitment day for East Midlands Airport (EMA) at their Nottingham office. EMA had a variety of job vacancies available in all different departments of the airport. The event allowed learners the opportunity to speak to Dawn Price, the Employment Network Manager for EMA, about the vacancies on offer and complete an application form on the day.
Natasha Wood, aged 21 from Long Eaton, is one of Care Training’s learners who successfully found employment after attending the EMA recruitment day. Natasha says, “Since 2007 I’ve been a full time mum to my young son. He’s now able to start nursery so I felt I could return to work.”
Natasha came to Care Training when her Jobcentre Plus adviser, Rachel Hamson, suggested she attend a Care Training pre-talk. This was an opportunity for Natasha to find out how Care Training supports unemployed people back into work. Natasha decided at her pre-talk to begin the retail programme. She says, “I had previously worked as a cleaner and worked in a factory. I wanted a new challenge and I felt that I would enjoy working in a retail environment.”
Natasha says, “During my time at Care Training I found the employability sessions helpful; it had been so long since I’d been in a classroom and I was surprised by how much I was learning. Jeannie was my adviser at Care Training and she really supported me when I started to apply for job vacancies.”
Natasha says, “I had been told about the EMA recruitment day a number of times by Jeannie and other advisers. On the day I saw a couple of job vacancies that I wanted to find out more about. I spoke to Dawn and she recommended I apply for the vacancy of customer service assistant in the restaurant at the airport.”
Natasha was successful in getting the customer service assistant position. She says, “Now that I’m working I’m hoping to start my driving lessons again; when I pass my test it will help with getting to work.”
“I’m really enjoying my new job. I think there are a lot of opportunities at East Midlands Airport and am hoping to one day progress into management.”
